1. Who we are

Guenther Metal Products (“Guenther”, “we”, “us”) sells metal roofing, siding, trim and accessories from the yard at 35 Niagara Stone Rd. in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, and through this website.

This policy explains what we collect, why, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do about it. We follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). If any of it is unclear, call the yard and ask — the number is at the bottom of this page.

2. What we collect

What you give us

  • Contact and order details — name, company, phone, email, billing address, and the address an order is delivered to.
  • Project details — measurements, cut lengths, drawings or photos you send us, and the profile, gauge and colour you choose.
  • Payment details — handled by our payment provider, not by us. See section 4.
  • What we say to each other — emails, messages sent through the forms on this site, and the notes we take when we work out a quote over the phone.

What is collected automatically

Our web server and analytics record standard technical data: IP address, browser and device type, the pages you opened, when, and the page or search that sent you here. We use it to see which products are being looked at and to keep the site working. We do not use it to build a profile of you as an individual.

What we never ask for

We have no reason to know your Social Insurance Number, your date of birth or your online banking credentials. Please don’t send them to us.

3. Cookies

This site sets two kinds of cookie:

  • Necessary — the shopping cart and checkout. Without them the cart cannot remember what you put in it and an order cannot be completed.
  • Analytics — counting visits and seeing which pages get used, so we know what to improve.

You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings. If you block the necessary ones, ordering online will stop working — you can still order by phone or email, which many of our customers prefer anyway.

4. Payments

Card payments are entered on our payment provider’s own secure form. We receive confirmation that the payment went through, the amount, the card type and the last few digits — never the full card number, never the security code, and nothing we could use to charge you again on our own.

If you pay by e-transfer or at the yard, we see only what appears on the bank record or the receipt.

5. How we use it

  • To quote, cut, pack, and hand over or deliver your order.
  • To reach you about that order — a lead time, a substitution, a delivery window, a shortage.
  • To keep the sales and tax records the Canada Revenue Agency requires.
  • To handle warranty claims, shortages and returns.
  • To keep the website secure and working.
  • To send trade offers or product news, but only to people who asked for them (section 8).

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. No exceptions, and no “marketing partners”.

6. Who else sees it

Only the people who need it to finish what you asked for:

  • our payment provider, to take the payment;
  • the carrier delivering your order — name, address and phone, so the driver can find you;
  • the mill or manufacturer, when a warranty claim has to go back to them;
  • our web host, email provider and analytics provider, who process data on our behalf and under our instructions;
  • our accountant, and a court, regulator or law-enforcement body where a valid legal request requires it.

Each of them gets only the part they need for that task.

7. Where it is kept

Our hosting, email and analytics providers may store or process data outside Canada, including in the United States. While it is in another country it is subject to that country’s laws, including lawful access by its courts and authorities. We choose providers that commit to protection comparable to what PIPEDA requires.

8. Marketing email

We send commercial email only to people who have asked for it, as Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) requires. Every one of those messages has an unsubscribe link, and we act on it promptly.

Order confirmations, quotes, delivery notices and answers to your questions are not marketing. You will keep receiving those while your order is live, whether or not you are on any list.

9. How long we keep it

  • Orders, invoices and delivery records — six years after the end of the tax year they belong to, which is what the Canada Revenue Agency requires of us.
  • Quotes and enquiries that did not become an order — 24 months, then deleted.
  • Drawings and measurements you sent — kept with the order they belong to; deleted with the quote if no order followed.
  • Marketing list — until you unsubscribe.
  • Website analytics — retained in aggregate under the settings of our analytics account.

10. Security

Traffic between your browser and this site is encrypted. Access to order records is limited to the staff who need it to do their job.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will tell you and report it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, as PIPEDA requires.

11. What you can ask us to do

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you and what we have done with it;
  • correct anything that is wrong;
  • stop sending you marketing;
  • delete what we are not legally required to keep.

Write to the address in section 14 and we will answer within 30 days, as PIPEDA requires. We may need to confirm who you are first.

Some things we cannot delete on request. An invoice from last year is a tax record, and we are required to keep it for six years even if you ask us not to.

12. Children

This is a building-supply shop. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

13. Other websites

Some links take you off this site — manufacturers’ warranty and installation PDFs, the map showing where the yard is, our social pages. We do not run those services and this policy does not cover them. Their own policies apply once you are there.

14. Changes, and how to reach us

We will post any change on this page and update the date at the top. If a change matters to you — a new provider, a new purpose — we will say so plainly rather than quietly editing a line.
